“Melancholia” was billed as a beautiful movie about the end of the world — featuring Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Alexander Skarsgård, and starring Kirsten Dunst.

There are two sisters, one of them having wed — when the two must deal with the prospect of earth’s oncoming collision with a rogue planet.

Just to ground things outside of panic, while there are indeed rogue planets disconnected from solar systems, astronomers say that the closest one is about 100 light years away. Phew!

Significantly, its US theatrical release will be on 11/11/11, an apocalyptic date, according to some.

One wonders whether all of the Comet Elenin hype on the Internet has been a form of viral marketing for this motion picture’s theatrical release in the US?

Because September 27, 2011 has also been predicted by New Age soothsayers to be a pivotal date in an impending apocalypse, this intriguing trailer seemed like the right thing to play today.

Dunst received the Cannes Film Festival Best Actress Award for her portrayal of Claire.
