The Kern County sexual abuse cases, which saw 34 people go to prison for child molestation only to have their convictions overturned years later, kicked off an ’80s and ’90s hysteria fueled by dishonest and overzealous prosecutors. Social workers were receiving training exaggerating the incidence of ritual satanic sex abuse, and many innocent people paid the price.

‘Witch Hunt’ focuses on defendant John Stoll, who had to do 20 years in prison before California’s Kern County Superior Court exonerated him. Attorneys with the Innocence Project said prosecutors had coached witnesses, who at the time were 6 to 8 years old. Six years ago Stoll secured $5 million in damages from the county.
