The Bots have been here for at least the last ten years. This is not totally new. 15 years ago, in Monterey CA I was involved at looking at newspaper Stories on the internet where you could then comment on the stories. This was a new internet experience, and going through a process of change from the beginning of my interaction with reading the story and comments, and eventually commenting myself. Initially this appeared to be “a local operation” being conducted by the” FBI” out of an upstairs office suite
at the Monterey Post Office (an educated guess with some back-up).
At first, the comments were being numbered. It appeared the comments were being monitored between 8AM and 5 PM as it was during this time that many of the comments simply disappeared. At this stage of the ‘program’ it was easy for the viewer to see that #2, #4,5,6, and #12 comments had been disappeared, for example. The rest of the comments were still up, and numbered, You could tell that the object was to eliminate points of view that differed – creating a concensus of views that was not democratic in nature, but it did help to create a skewed reality of the subject matter. In a story that say 50 people commented on often 25 comments might be missing, for example. Some, if not all of my comments became missing!
I went through a time period of about 3 weeks and saw the changes taking place before my eyes. People commented on the missing comments which were numbered. Those comments were removed. Still you could see all comments posting as you wrote them, but if you did it during working hours of 8-5 some disappeard within an hour. If you placed the comment in the middle of the night, after five PM , then your comment remained until 8 AM – if it was one that was going to be removed.
Next, ‘They’ took away the numbers. No comment had a number any longer. Therefore you couldn’t make heads or tails of who was saying what or why. All you could do was accept the skewed reality of “shit” you were being fed. They did a few other steps…
Finally they added one more feature that caused me to “freak out”. All my posts that had been removed were back up on the screen. For a few days, I thought I had won a battle. But this is a WAR on Our Perception, and even moreso on our REAILTY!
