2013 was a big year for UFO awareness, with the The Citizen Hearing on Disclosure, held at the National Press Club in Washington, DC between April 29 to May 3. Researchers, activists, political leaders, and former members of military services and government agencies from ten countries gave testimony to six former members of the United States Congress on the evidence of an Extraterrestrial presence engaging the human race. This event was unprecedented in terms of size, scope and the involvement of former Members of the U. S. Congress.
A few months later, between August 9 through August 11, more than 500 followers and believers of UFOlogy and the extra-terrestrial contact movement gathered for the first Contact in the Desert conference at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center in the Mojave Desert of Southern California.
