This documentary is from the 1960s and 1970s and is soooo unbelievably politically incorrect. But this one is particularly interesting.

During World War II, U.S. soldiers were sent to isolated islands in the South Pacific to build airbases. when the war ended, they went home, and the islands’ natives began making straw and bamboo fetishes to encourage the soldiers to come back.

The natives loved that the visitors had brought fantastic tools, what they considered treasures. They were amazed that the visitors, though they did not hunt or fish, never lacked food.
