Atlanta is one of the largest cities in the American South. Yet Atlanta was not the first great city in Georgia nor its structures the first to rise above the dense forest.
The original inhabitants constructed some of the most impressive monuments in North America. Only now are the structures they built starting to reveal a civilization that was more complex and advanced than was previously thought.
Mississippian Nican Tlaca constructed enormous earthen pyramids throughout Georgia and played an early version of lacrosse.
