Of all the natural processes, reproduction is one of the most misunderstood. Humans have tried to guide it, without understanding it.
Some species can actually create others when they mate. Some species that can breed in the wild can breed when captive. Biologists have tried to intervene in the same interest.
Not all of the research is altruistic. Joseph Stalin tried to create a supersoldier that needed less food, clothing and shelter. At the direction of the Soviet government, he tried to mate humans with chimps, to that end.
