We are the only creatures that use symbols in reference to something else — absolutely everything the mind can conceive of.
Along with this gift comes a flaw: Most people are unwilling to interpret symbols for themselves. They blindly submit to interpretations given by sources unknown.
Words can be perverted and used to manipulate rather than inform. The media use those symbols as they choose.
