Shona Banda is a medical marijuana activist outspoken about successfully treating her Crohn’s disease with the plant, which remains illicit at her home in Kansas. The state removed her son from her custody after he spoke out against school anti-marijuana propaganda.
When in March, her 11-year-old’s school offered its Drug Abuse Resistance Education, or D.A.R.E., the school questioned him privately without his mother present and contacted child protective services, who took him from his mother. Garden City, Kans. police then obtained a search warrant for Banda’s home, at which they found 2 oz. of marijuana.
