Cathrine Egeland, a social scientist at Norway’s Work Research Institute, said sociology’s role was to challenge thinking based on differences between humans. That is why she told television host Harald Eria that she had a theoretical bias against believing that there was some biological basis for men and women choosing different employment sectors.
Eria seemed more compelled by another body of psychologists and doctors who held up prenatal testing results and international studies of job choices to offer a nature-and-nurture explanation for trends.
