Even when I was little I thought the special effects looked fake. Now I just think they’re hilarious!
The film’s liner notes say:
“A diplomat is nearly assassinated. In order to save him, a submarine is shrunken to microscopic size and injected into his blood stream with a small crew. Problems arise almost as soon as they enter the bloodstream.”
My dad, a physician, had written a science book for kids that explored the human body by being shrunk down and traveling through the human body. He made it full of adventures, adventures very much like what was portrayed in this movie.
Here’s the cookie. He sent the manuscript to a publisher, who hung on to it without responding for many months. They then returned the script, well-worn, and a rejection note. He sent it on to another publisher, who did publish it. Low and behold this movie came out a couple years later, produced by a company associated with the publisher he had originally sent the book to.
