The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array, or ALMA, the world’s most complex ground-based observatory, has opened for business. Its image reveal a view of the universe invisible to normal telescopes.
Scientists around the world are competing to be among the first to use it. Already it has captured images of the Antenna galaxies as they collide. This video reveals ALMA’s first public image.
