‘Taken for a Ride’ is how American public mass transit was undermined and destroyed by General Motors and the highway industry.

In 1957, the Automobile Manufacturers Association produced a cartoon set in the year 2000. With it, they took America for a ride.

The car companies wanted people to think that the car would be a source of convenience and automation. But in reality it has been a sort of isolation, pollution and death.

The commute has just been a reminder of this misery. These car companies have the Chinese, in particular, so swindled that they’ll deal with 100 straight kilometers of gridlock.
