The way young children play with each other to socialize and become adept at commerce, kittens play with inedible objects to prepare them for a life of stalking, capturing and killing prey. Kittens love to be teased but but only up to a point. Without an ideal capture-success ratio, which experts estimate to 1 to 3, or 1 to 6, young felines quickly become bored. Because cats are more adept at viewing movement than humans, high-speed photography provides a glimpse into the species’ amazing reflexes and balance.
