If we’re going to stop using gasoline in our cars and trucks, we are going to need a fuel that’s good for the environment and made in this country.

Show host Carrick visits a cellulosic ethanol production company, Verenium. Ethanol is already an alternative fuel to gasoline in Brazil. Verenium makes cellulosic ethanol from high-energy crops and native grasses.

Most of what we pump into our cars today is gasoline, unsustainable. But now we can pull plant materials, leftover from making sugar, and using them to make fuels.

Once you release the sugars from these organic compounds, you can make ethanol.
