Parents desperate to relieve their children of seizures are finding themselves up against the federal government. In many states, the Drug Enforcement Administration is succeeding at curtailing supplies of the cannabis extract cannabidiol, or CBD, a chemical DEA critics say the Controlled Substances Act does not prohibit. While criminal penalties can muffle a doctor who might recommend CBD to children, a growing number of parents are supporting each other as they try to alleviate their children’s suffering.
