With the Soviet empire gone, the US had no credible enemies left. Who could possibly confront them? Years before 9/11, the American Enterprise Institute’s Samuel Huntington said in the future wars would no longer take place between countries and states, but between cultures; and that the best candidate for the upcoming divide would be between Islam and the West.
