Scientists propose that a space elevator made of carbon nanotubes could be cheaper and safer than rockets.
They’d like to create a 22,000-mile cable elevator between the Earth and the Moon, that could transport people and payloads. NASA recently funded a competition, to encourage young people to start solving this puzzle.
