Sky News, CNN and other channels report that there has been an increase in the number of newborns with disturbing deformities in Fallujah, Iraq. 75% of the infant dead classified as deformed. Fallujah was the scene of the bloodiest battle in the war in Iraq in April 2003, where depleted uranium was present in most of the artillery. Many Iraqis suspect that chemical weapons, such as white phosphorous were also used.

In a letter to the United Nations, young women in Fallujah are described as “Terrified of having children because of the increasing number of babies born grotesquely deformed, with no heads, two heads, a single eye in their foreheads, scaly bodies or missing limbs.” There has also been a steep increase of stillbirths, as well as young children dying from disfiguring cancers.

The US Defense Department’s response did not address what weapons or chemicals were used in massacre and the international community has been virtually silent. The World Health Organization says it plans to investigate.
