Trust in Congress is about as low as it has ever been; as of this writing, a RealClearPolitics average of polls suggests three quarters of Americans distrust the country’s highest legislative body. Citizens’ influence on lawmaking is radically disconnected from congressional action, and instead closely linked to the amount of money they can leverage to pay off politicians.
