Although cars and planes were invented at around the same time and despite the fact that many people have probably fantasized that their cars could helicopter them out of traffic jams, viable designs for flying cars didn’t get put into production until quite recently.

Here are four very different designs of flying cars that you can now buy, if your wallet is big enough.

Behold, the Pal V, the Terrafugia Transition, the Maveric LSA and the Aeromobile 3.0!

  • Yes, I agree that the Propulsion Engine Technology would be worth waiting for. However, we have been waiting now for over 100 years for 500,000 patents to be released. All from the Quantum Zero Point Field. Free Energy without use of the Earth’s Grid. Nikola Tesla had a big part to play in the Early 20th Century. All shelved because there is no money to be made from it.

  • PURE Foolishness. There might be a few individuals that need such a device but I doubt it. A pilot’s license is essential to operate one of these. Willy Nilly landing is against the law however, so taking off and landing places are few and far between. These planes are not very stable or agile compared to a standard airplane.

  • I echo those comments. This is all fantasy. most folks can’t cope with two dimensions, let alone three.
Yes the vehicles exist, but don’t imagine that they will ever be in common usage sooner than 2050.

  • I really trust that once we all massively take to the air we will be better drivers than on the roads. Otherwise nobody will be safe on the ground anymore either.
I doubt that the average person will be allowed to play the Jetsons any time soon without a specific license that allows the person to fly.
And it will be really funny to watch what happens if we all suddenly decide to take off while stuck in traffic jams.
I have the feeling that there is a ton of logistic behind this seemingly accessible tech that we have not covered yet.
For instance: the little matter of air space available to all: imagine flying in the path of a big airliner, should be quite thrilling for all involved, then landing wherever: in people’s private fields, airstrips (in front of a big Boeing) or on an interstate, how fun all this will become. James Bond landed in water if I remember correctly.
Besides it still requires fuel no matter what, while we have better and cleaner tech already available. All in all no big step forward although it looks great. Personally I’ll wait for the propulsion engine tech to be released, this should not take too much longer.
