Dear Joss,
I can’t thank you enough for your instrumental help in keeping my service alive.
This is a song by the divine Miss Sarah Vaughan, that my mother used to take me out to sing on the open mic, when I was 12 years old in gay jazz bars in Chicago, just before we moved to Brazil (!)
I remain a Sarah Vaughan aficcionado!
Now, my mother’s gone and I was just in Chicago last week, sorting through her collection of art and antiques to auction off, to pay for her medical bills. She was a brilliant decorator and the pieces are exquisite but suddenly, nobody cares about antiques anymore. Oh, well.
I hope things are wonderful, wherever you are –
You’re my hero, Joss!
Happy Birthday!
Love, Chica
