For the past few years the Department of the Navy has been developing high-energy laser weapons. Amazingly, these systems are able to utilize even commercially available fiber solid-state lasers to get the desired results — the take-down of a test plane.
[UPDATE]The Navy even did an official release of a newer video of this same weapon, claiming that they intend to use it against “small boats,” as well as planes.
