“The Stepford Wives” is based on a novel by Ira Levin and depicts male misgivings about the rise of feminism. As this movie was made in the ’70s, that was particularly topical.
This is a very acclaimed thriller — and perhaps the slowest-paced good thriller ever made. The movie would the stage for “Pleasantville,” with its lampooning of suburbia: the too precisely aligned picket fences and mailboxes.
