The most exciting moments on C-Span in recent years have been in watching Congressman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) totally rock the House Oversight Committee. He has been so good at his job and has so clearly appeared to be enjoying himself. This is why many were shocked when he announced his resignation on May 17th, effective on June 30th.

We learn of Chaffetz’ frustrations in not being able to pry requested documents from the Department of Justice and the State Department and how, if anything, it’s getting even tighter under Trump. His job dissatisfaction is compounded by its grueling nature and in constantly having to be on the road, raising a million dollars each year to campaign.

We learn that Chaffetz neither owns nor rents a residence in DC, as he can’t afford to support two homes, with two kids in college. He sleeps in a tiny cot in his office, which he shows to Sharyl Attkisson, in this rare report, where we actually see an honest US Congressman being interviewed by an honest journalist working for a  Mainstream Media outlet.

    • Sooooo, a he finds out that that WE THE PEOPLE are not in charge, as if no one knows that fact. Instead the bowels of deceit and obstruction are in charge. The question is WHO or WHAT is in charge of them? Are the DOJ, et al just bureaucratic gatekeepers droning on to protect their jobs, forever quoting policy (not law) and forever mindless (Vogons) or are they pointedly obstructive because they are owned by unknown overlords?

    • Chaffetz did a poor job under the Obama administration based upon the Oversight Committee Mission Statement….and I quote:
      Oversight Committee Mission Statement

We exist to secure two fundamental principles. First, Americans have a right to know that the money Washington takes from them is well spent. And second, Americans deserve an efficient, effective government that works for them. Our duty on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee is to protect these rights.

Our solemn responsibility is to hold government accountable to taxpayers, because taxpayers have a right to know what they get from their government. We will work tirelessly, in partnership with citizen-watchdogs, to deliver the facts to the American people and bring genuine reform to the federal bureaucracy.

This is the mission of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

      • Well, Chaffetz aside, the Oversight Committee has failed in following its own mission statement, and very openly, for the last few decades. A mission statement does not represent action taken.

    • In Trump’s defense, his various (outright treasonous, IMHO) enemies swarm like so many cockroaches looking for anything… anything at all with which to build mountains out of mole hills and further confuse and confound the gullible few who haven’t figured this whole game out yet. Trust that one or more of these fully detestable vermin (or patriots, depending upon one’s point of view) has either already leaked any conceivable information which our honorable Congressman might request, or will soon enough. Trust also that JEH style blackmail and extortion probably has full control of any testimony and at least the swing vote for any given issue considering how very ridiculous some parties have been willing to make themselves look lately. The Joker has forever been the Trump card. AASB

      • We sure did. I have watched him during some hearings, and you can just tell he is not “one of them”. He, sadly, also had to deal with Cummings, a total waste of skin.
We need to fire them all, and hire more like Chaffetz.

    • I think it is astonishing that thisw man, as almost any human being, is talking about himself, while using the issue of………………..you.
You have to fly to etc, where he menat I have to fly.
I think this is so cracy, talking as a you about the self as I.
Therefore this question: who/what is this I, when it is not you???

Just listen what a human being says…………
This is a habit, which by which allmost all persons survive on earth.

At least, I stopped speaking this way……….

    • Yes, I agree. Republicans are no better than Democrats. They are clearly two sides of the same coin.
