Former Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Michael Stenger, in Charge of Security on 1/6, Found Dead

Michael Stenger, the former US Senate sergeant-at-arms who was in charge of Senate security during the breach of the US Capitol on January 6th, 2021 was found dead in his home on Monday, with no cause of death reported.

Stenger was forced to resign on January 7th, the day after the Capitol breach at the request of then-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who hired him for the post in 2018.

In remarks before a congressional hearing on Feb. 23, 2021, Stenger called the events of Jan. 6, 2021, “a violent, coordinated attack where the loss of life could have been much worse.” He called for an investigation of “professional agitators” at the January 6th, 2021, protests.

Stenger worked for the US Secret Service for 35 years and was in charge of the Secret Service Washington Field Office before being named Senate sergeant-at-arms. He had previously attained the rank of captain in the US Marine Corps.

The unclear circumstances of his death are fueling conspiracy theories, especially in light of the fact that four Capitol Police officers “committed suicide” in the wake of January 6th.
