There's nothing magical here. The study of the "natural frequencies" of various 2D and 3D shapes showed the power of Fourier Analysis (2D) [using sine waves] and spherical harmonics (3D). Sound waves are just collections of 2D sine waves that resonate (enhance) the natural interactions of spatially structured matter. In other words WE are enhancing SOME of the natural activity in these situations. This is then interpreted visually - appealing to the pseudo instant "view" achieved by our eyes; re-emphasizing the human obsession with space that we have seen after the Greeks invention of geometry.
