The Scythians, Iranian nomads who controlled huge portions of the Eurasian steppes from the 9th century BC to the 4th century AD, are making news again, as some of their drug paraphernalia has surfaced in Russia.

Ancient Greek historian Herodotus wrote, “Scythians used a plant to produce smoke that no Grecian vapor-bath can surpass which made them shout aloud.”

To steel themselves for battle, Scythian kings would take huge tokes of opium and cannabis from solid gold bongs, which archaeologists say may be 2,400 years old.
