The year was 1947, and Navy Secretary James Forrestal sent a naval task force to Antarctica to investigate what was being called “The Secret Land.” The advertised purpose was to locate mineral resources, such as coal deposits.
But the mission in fact had a hidden agenda. The Nazis had built underground bases, and the American defense establishment was obsessed with rooting out these enclaves.
