Many call it the greatest statue on earth. The keeper of the ancient mysteries, guardian of the ancient secrets: the Great Sphinx.

Every hundred years or so an idea comes along that can shake the world -- an idea so revolutionary that no one believes it could be true.

John Anthony West and his team of scientists challenge our ideas about the origins of the Great Sphinx. They suggest it was carved 9,000 to 10,000 years ago, before Egypt became a desert.

West says that the evidence is in plain sight.
