Samsung recently announced their development of a graphene-based battery that charges five times faster than standard lithium ion and that reduces a typical charging time from one hour to 12 minutes, a total game-changer for mobile devices and electric vehicles.
In 2010, the scientists who developed a method for manufacturing graphene were awarded a Nobel Prize. Since then, the price of graphene has dropped and graphene production has grown from 12 tons in 2009 to over 390 tons in 2017. Graphene can conduct electricity faster than any known substance, 140 times faster than silicon. It can conduct heat ten times better than copper. It is also transparent. 97% of light passes through graphene and it is also the most impermeable material known.
