In a super-trendy shared office space in central Stockholm, 2,000 workers are being offered microchips in order to help them open doors and operate office equipment. These implantable chips are relatively old, low-tech stuff, at this point. What’s upsetting about this piece is how eager these young people are to be implanted.
These implantable RFID chips were temporarily taken off the US market in 2010, after a 2007 research study showed high rates of cancer surrounding the implant sites in mice. The manufacturers have argued that the same is not true for humans and other animals. However, California, Wisconsin and North Dakota have enacted laws against mandated implantation.
Level9News’ DJ Welch claims that these physical chips have long since been circumvented and surpassed, from a broader mass-surveillance perspective by Geospatial Intelligence. The data is primarily garnered from cellphones, which monitor all purchases and all activity on social media, with each human being becoming a “node” on a vast, interconnected work, which is learning how to predict activity:
