I think you're right; Labat is highly compromised. If so, he deserves everything he gets coming.

When I was in my late twenties the local mob Don tried to recruit me. He owed a lot of money the company I worked for and I was assigned to pick up his payments. That's how I came to know him.
He frequently tried to give me things, but I was wary not to ever accept favors from him. But over thew course of a year or so I got to know his contacts, saw it with my own eyes, and in one case heard it first hand from the State Attorney General himself who happily cow towed to this Don. The list of corrupt politicians I knew for certain also included the Mayor, the Chief of Police and the Sheriff. He had quasi-military protection for what he claimed was a "legitimate business". He also had a charity operation, as he called it. Helping the poor in his neighborhood. Did wonders for his info pipeline. His visual business was a grocery store, but that was just a front, a place where he operated vice operations all over the county from its back office.
Now I must tell you that he would confide in me when the local law enforcement was planning a raid on one of his vices, his people would get hauled off to the pokey and turned loose. It would all be staged because some political stooge was running for office and needed publicity that he was tough of crime on Sunday. In those days everyone read the Sunday news paper. It was pre-planned by him to happen late Saturday with full page photos. That was happening back in the late sixties.
Thats how old this political joke on gullible Americans is! Will they ever learn? Not as long as their bellies are full and their pleasures are accessible, because the foundations have been destroyed by - vice!
Telling us about it would have been enough. SEEING it is quite repulsive. Please in the future warn us first. I believe that, that repulsiveness is what has caused men in the past, to beat up gays. It is absolutely REPULSIVE, REPUGNANT, and causes a very negative reaction.
