In 2004, on four of the heaviest ever medical patients, gastric bypass was performed.

One woman was told she needed such surgery, or else she would die. But even with the operation, long-term survival rates were less than 5 percent.

This documentary covers seven years in one of these individuals’ – Melissa’s – life, as well as her struggle for independence and normalcy.
