A remotely operated vehicle, or ROV, survey has revealed a rare fish indeed.

At 1,500 feet down, this team saw a bright, shiny object, which resembled some a riser from a drilling operation.

Zooming in, they discovered an oarfish. It is the largest boney fish in the ocean

What you see is an oil pipe on the left side. On the right side you see part of the oarfish. Based on the dimensions of the riser, they think that the oarfish is five to 10 meters in length, or 15 to 30 feet long.

This is the first time this species has been observed this far down in condition this healthy.
