This is a fascinating and refreshingly humanized, conversation, held recently between a US Lt. General and an Al Jazeera journalist.

Al Jazeera’s Mehdi Hasan goes head-to-head, here with Army Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn, former head of the US Defense Intelligence Agency, discussing the recent wars and about how to go about dealing with ISIS and Iran.

Flynn is astoundingly contrite about his role in the War in Iraq, during this exchange, where he freely criticizes US war policy. Flynn is the former head of the US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and a commander of J-SOC, the “ghost” military unit, whose squads hunted Al Qaeda in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The General admits the the US Government has invested “more in problems than in solutions”, such as the creation of more drones, rather than addressing the underlying social problems of the region.

He has very interesting observations about modern-day Iran. This is stuff you’re not going to see in the mainstream media, with a very

important warrior/strategist of the US’ Middle East wars, which inspire me, personally – because both parties in this discussion are completely cogent and reality-based, unlike the policy-makers of the US Government.
