This ABC Australia documentary looks into the increasing incidence of cyber attacks in both the civilian and government sectors. Donald McGurk, the CEO of Codan Ltd in Australia, describes a cyber attack sustained by his company involving the theft of a high tech product they manufacture, followed by inferior, cheaper versions of it entering the marketplace.

McGurk ultimately realized that his company needed to drastically revamp their security protocols, especially since they design and manufacture a large number of products that are sold to the Australian government and for military use, which had made them a target of hackers in the first place.

The ABC investigation reveals a reluctance within the Australian government to be overly concerned about security and few people made themselves available to publicly discuss the topic. Finally, an informant emerged, describing breaches at several important installations, including Australia’s Defense Department, which is the agency that manages the secure email network which connects the entire Australian military.

The film looks at what is being done to mitigate the ever-growing risks of cyber-attacks, without overstepping the privacy of Australian citizens.
