• A follow up on the USCG involvement with the Greenland Scientific Research Center, in 1939. My father was with USCG AIR. They used the long distance rescue aircraft PBY. You know? The amphibious aircraft for landing on the water. Gotta be a no brainer landing one of those on a sheet of ice. After Vietnam, the Coast Guard started using helicopters and put the old PBYs out to pasture. The Coast Guard bases didn’t need ramps and mules (like a forklift) to haul the aircraft out of the water to their hangars any more. Wow! I am getting old. Thanks, Capt Joe.

My late father, a USCG Lifer, started his Coast Guard career building the original scientific research outpost in Greenland, in 1939. He spent the first 5 long years of his career in Greenland, when there was nothing but ice and wind. Keeping an eye out for the NAZIs, don’t you know? Thanks, Capt Joe.

• Video is broken and stops playing pictures, only sound continues at about 1:54:00...

  • It plays. But at 2:46 Microsoft started messing up the audio, as it usually does on these kind of videos. Yes, Microsoft.

  • I think there must have been a temporary network issue on your end because it is playing fine for me now.

    • Nope it is the same problems in the same place also the sound is distorted after 1:54:30 and video is frozen.

• when I drive on the plains east of Denver Airport it is always interesting to see 3 transformers on 3 consecutive telephone poles which could light up a city the size of Denver Metro - and yet - all you see is fields - no one notices except the awake electricians - no one else seem to see this.
