Bigfoot is the best-known example of a “cryptid,” an animal whose presumptive existence is based anecdotal or other evidence, considered to be insufficient proof by mainstream science and thus relegated to the field of cryptozoology.
However, a small minority of accredited scientists think that evidence collected from alleged Bigfoot encounters deserves further evaluation and testing. The most outspoken of these is Dr. Jeffrey Meldrum, a tenured professor of Anatomy at Idaho State University.
Persistent reports of encounters with Bigfoot keep this legend alive.
