Best of Stefan Pabst’s 3D Drawings

Here’s an inspiring change of pace for your Sunday.

I haven’t been focusing enough of the arts. This piece is a simple and elegant demonstration of “art meets science”. At least, German dry brush painter, Stefan Pabst makes it look simple and elegant.

Pabst amazes, here, first with a simple black and white sketch that he whips up quickly into a photo-realistic 3D glass of water, which from the point of view of the camera, looks like you could reach out and grab it and take a sip.

When he turns the sheet of paper upside down, the required distortion of the 3D illustration to make it look real from that angle reveals the math behind the illusion.

He goes on to dry paint illusions of increasing complexity – and downright squeamishness!
