Michael Springman, a former official at the Jeddah, Saudi Arabia U.S. Consulate, speaks about how al-Qaeda was a CIA operation.
Not only was the CIA providing training to bin Laden, but he was in fact a CIA asset, and the CIA was rubber-stamping his operatives going to the United States for training.
Springman said that it was “absolutely incomprehensible” to him. It wasn’t until he left the Foreign Service, when he was unterminated for “unspecified reasons,” that he learned that the CIA and bin Laden were recruiting assets for the ’80s Afghan War.
