Why Sweating Cools You Down

This is a glimpse of sweat on a molecular and subcellular level.

What we perceive as temperature is really just the kinetic level of the molecules. Some of the molecular movements are vibrational, some rotational — that’s what temperature is.

When you have sweat on the surface of your skin — usually when your muscles are getting hotter — the skin cells transfer their energy to the water and away from you.
