Why isn’t Wall Street in jail? Matt Taibbi at Rolling Stone wanted to find the answer.
One Senate investigation laid out the crisis succinctly: “Everything’s [expletive] up, and nobody goes to jail.”
But one guy did go to jail: Bernie Madoff. In a jailhouse interview, Madoff admitted that the banks “had to know [about the corruption]. But the attitude was sort of, ‘If you’re doing something wrong, we don’t want to know.”
