Hacktivist group Anonymous describes itself as “A decentralized non-violent resistance movement, which seeks to restore the rule of law and to fight back against the organized criminal class.”

In late 2010, they crashed the websites VISA and PayPal, in protest against the arrest of WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange.

In June and July of 2011, several young people affiliated with Anonymous, mostly in their 20s and in their teens were arrested in June and July by government agencies throughout Europe and the US. The FBI reported that it did not appear that any of the 16 people arrested in 10 US states, on July 18 in even knew each other.
