In 1977, the Brazilian Air Force was deployed to the island of Colares, in the mouth of the Amazon River during a wave of UFO sightings and attacks, where several residents were struck by intense beams of radiation that left burn marks and puncture wounds and resulted in two deaths. The Brazilian Air Force report, “Operation Saucer” interviewed three thousands eyewitnesses over 500 photographs and 15 hours of film, which sat in classified vaults for 20 years.

In 1997, the retired colonel who’d been in charge of that operation, met with ufologists, AJ Gevaerd and Marco Petit and gave a videotaped testimony of his own Close Encounters during the operation. He also displayed on camera what was clearly a subcutaneous implant about half an inch in length.

When his report was published in Brazil’s UFO Magazine, those who’d hoped it would lead to a re-opening of the 1977 case were dismayed when Colonel Hollanda was found dead of an apparent suicide. Some, including the Colonel’s co-pilot believe that he’d been murdered.

Several years later in 2004, some of Project Saucer’s photographs and transcripts were made available by the Brazilian government to Gevaerd and Petit (the films remained off-limits).

Gevaerd believes that Hollanda, who’d previously attempted suicide was depressed and that he’d chosen to take his own life. Gevaerd states that Colonel Hollanda strongly believed that we were visited by extraterrestrials and that he’d most likely come forward out of a sense of duty and concern that his secrets would die with him.
