The weekend after a bullet ended President John F. Kennedy’s life in Texas, Dino Brugioni was analyzing the best footage of the event for the CIA: Abraham Zapruder’s now iconic 8 mm film. Now, Brugioni says federal investigators may have altered the footage to obscure an exit wound on the rear of the president’s skull, in effect covering up for a shooter who targeted the president from his front.

When Shane Sullivan, producer of the 2013 documentary “Killing Oswald,” and the associated feature “The Zapruder Film Mystery,” wanted to use the amateur 1963 film in his documentaries, he said legal threats from Dallas’ Sixth Floor Museum censored these alternative views.
