German firm Festo has managed to beautifully link the fields of biology and aeronautical engineering.
Now, Festo’s bionic tech has allowed their “SmartBird” to take off, cruise and land all by itself. Not only do its wings flap by themselves but they can also turn — to allow the machine to turn — just like a real bird!
SmartBird has a revoltionary development, what’s called an “active torsional drive unit.” It’s incredibly efficient.
