Psychopathy infects the full spectrum of humanity. It is distributed in a population in the same way that left-handedness is. You’d never notice someone was left-handed until you saw him or her write or catch a ball.
You may not notice psychopathy until you see someone required to act on conscience. Psychopaths are more likely to be found in the board room than on the wrong side of the tracks. The more competitive an environment is, the more likely psychos are to be found.
Among politicians, for example, lack of pity and remorse is a prerequisite to success. Among the powerful, only the psychopaths can thrive.
