As a part of a group of 12- and 13-year-olds trying to make a difference, Severn Suzuki — a brilliant youth — astounded observers at the Earth Summit.
She demanded that the powerful of the world change their ways.
Losing my future, she said, was not like losing an election or a few points on the stock market.
She was there to speak for all generations to come; she was there to speak on behalf of the starving children whose cries went unheard, the countless animals going extinct.
Suzuki added that she was afraid to go out in the sun because of holes in the ozone layer, afraid to breathe the air because of pollution.
Heartbreaking. Moving.
