First-term Senator Ted Cruz announced his run for presidency in 2016, calling attention to the Texas Republican’s close ties to the financial services industry. His wife, Heidi, is a managing director at Goldman Sachs, a leading New York-based investment bank that has faced accusations of insider trading and complicity with dictators. In 2010, the Securities and Exchange Commission levied a $550 million fine against Goldman for securities fraud.

Goldman’s influence knows no party lines. Presumptive Democratic Party presidential nominee Hillary Clinton gave two 2013 speeches to the firm – collecting fees likely in the range of $400,000.
